Box Truck Insurance
Delivery, moving and freight hauling with straight trucks.
How much does box truck insurance cost?
Price depends on the truck’s weight and value, your driving record and experience, how far you travel, what you haul, your claims history and whether you run under your own authority. We compare several insurance companies to find the best rate.
What insurance does a box truck business need?
Most box truck owners need commercial auto liability, physical damage, motor truck cargo and general liability. Owner-operators leased to a carrier may also need non-trucking liability.
Does personal auto insurance cover a box truck?
No. A box truck used for deliveries, moving or hauling for pay needs a commercial auto policy. Personal policies exclude business use of trucks like these.
Do I need my own authority to run a box truck?
If you haul other people’s goods for hire across state lines, you generally need a USDOT number and operating authority. Running under another carrier’s authority is another option, and we can insure either setup.
Can a brand-new box truck business get insurance?
Yes. We work with insurance companies that write new ventures. Prior commercial driving experience, a clean MVR and a clear plan for what you will haul help the most.
Can you insure box trucks for delivery and load board work?
Yes. Last-mile delivery programs, load boards and brokers each set their own insurance requirements, and we build your policy and certificates to meet them.
Is cargo coverage required for a box truck?
Most brokers and shippers require motor truck cargo coverage. The right limit depends on the value of your typical load, and some freight like electronics may need higher limits.
Dump Truck Insurance
Coverage for haulers, contractors and job site work.
What insurance does a dump truck owner need?
Dump truck owners typically need commercial auto liability, physical damage, general liability for job sites, inland marine for equipment and workers comp if they have employees.
Why is dump truck insurance more expensive?
Dump trucks are heavy, expensive to repair, work on busy job sites and often run many short trips a day. Driver experience, radius and claims history make the biggest difference in price.
Am I covered on construction sites?
Your auto policy covers the truck, while general liability covers job site operations that are not auto-related. Many general contractors also require you to name them as additional insureds.
Do dump trucks need cargo coverage?
Haulers of sand, gravel and stone often do not, but some contracts or materials require it. We review your contracts to recommend the right coverage.
Can dump truck owner-operators lease onto a carrier?
Yes. Leased owner-operators usually carry physical damage and non-trucking liability, while the motor carrier’s policy covers them under dispatch.
What do you need for a box truck or dump truck quote?
Your CDL or license number, years of experience, the truck’s VIN and value, how far you travel, what you haul, your USDOT number if you have one and any prior loss runs.
How fast can I get a certificate of insurance?
Usually the same business day. Send the certificate holder’s name, address and any special wording to csteam@simmererinsurance.com or call (301) 386-0900.
